Football star Wayne Rooney was arrested by authorities at Dulles International Airport on December 16th.

ABC 7 reporter Erin Hawksworth tweeted the following details Sunday afternoon:

#JustIn: Police say Wayne Rooney of DC United has set off a door alarm at Dulles International Airport, but has not compromised the safety of that airport. Rooney was charged with public intoxication and transported to the Loudoun County Detention Center where he will be held until he becomes sober. MLS #

CNN reported Sunday that the arrest occurred in mid-December. We do not understand why this has just become public.

Yikes – not very beautiful for probably the most famous soccer player in America. Being arrested at an airport for public drunkenness is not a good situation.

What was he thinking of when he went somewhere he did not belong? Airports are pretty much the last place on the planet where you want to be fucked. Rooney, even if he is guilty, must be smarter. (RELATED: The World Cup is over, is it time to return to the sporting reality? [VIDEO])

You also thought that Rooney would have people with him who could intervene if he started to lose control.

He is paid a fortune to be the face of football in Washington, DC and in the country as a whole. You can not let a guy like that get arrested. You simply can not let it happen.

Come back for more details when we have them.
