Rooney was arrested on December 16 at the International Airport Arrivals gate by the Washington Metropolitan Airport Authorities Police after stating that he had set off a door alarm but had not brought any undermining the security of the airport. According to court records, he paid a $ 25 fine on Friday. The charge is a class 4 offense.

United issued a statement to ABC7 following reports of the arrest, which had not been reported before Sunday.

Rooney was probably returning from a short trip to Saudi Arabia at the time of his arrest, where he appears to have taken the plane for a private jet.
