The girl who lived 10,000 feet in free fall

At 11.00 on December 24, 1971, Lima's flight ticket between Lima and Pucallpa was 508. Among the passengers were two German citizens – ornithologist Maria Koepcke and her 17-year-old daughter Juliana.

Just 40 minutes after the start, their plane got into a heavy thunderstorm. The lighting struck the tank, causing the aircraft wing to open the hull.

The plane went down quickly and began to collapse when it got closer to the ground. Eventually it fell after 10,000 feet, and it fell into the middle of the merciless Amazon jungle.
