Potable Water Tank Servicing – Normal Filling

  1. Referring to the bacteria that grows in the hose and tanks- The EPA requires that the potable water tanks be sanitized at least once every 3 months with a product like Purogene. This should also be done for the water carts that are used for filling which will keep the hoses clean too.

  2. I got soaked to the bone filling one of these. What they don't tell you is that once you take out the fill hose, there is going to be a lot of water coming back out of the fill port of the aircraft. A LOT OF WATER. Why? Well the airlines do not want the airplane full of water because they do not want unnecessary weight, so they usually fill it 60% full as that is more than enough for a single flight. But when you don't fill it all the way, the fill hole flows back a lot of water once you stop everything and disconnect the fill hose. Enough to soak you right down to the bone if you are not prepared for it.

  3. You should first let run 10 liters of water out of the filling hose before connecting it to the aircraft. To wash out any bacteria that has grown in the hose. And use disinfecting spray on the connections.
