  1. The worst thing a big airport has is the timing. As soon as an aircraft fails to comply the schedule or to be quick, another or more airplanes will pay for it. What do you guys think?

  2. What amazes me and makes my hackles rise as a private pilot in the UK is this US practice of giving aircraft landing clearance to a runway which is not clear. I've never experienced that here. If I'm on final approach and another aircraft is lined up to depart, I'm cleared to continue approach and advised to expect late landing clearance. So I'm prepared to go around at any time. Once the departure is in the air, and the runway's mine, I'm cleared to land. There is no possibility of confusion and a landing clearance is never revoked (except in emergency such as a runway incursion). Planning routinely to revoke clearances like this just seems like asking for confusion and trouble. If I call ready to depart at the runway hold point and someone's on final, I may be asked if I'm ready for immediate departure, if I am I'm cleared to line up and expedite takeoff. If not, I'm told to hold position and line up after the arriving aircraft has passed me. Just seems far more organised, precise and well controlled to me.

  3. This wasn't anything like a "close call". This is an everyday occurrence that happened within normal procedures. That said, it was scary how the ATC (again, it happens far too often) failed to get the initial "go around" message to the pilot, and therefore had to repeate before the landing pilot understood and complied. He didn't even wait until the departing plane had finished transmistting, causing part of the message to suffer interference, and he rushed the message. I got "Skest 4481 guround", not "SkyWest 4481, go around".

  4. For even more clarity, could you guys please put a little compass in the video and / or number the runways? Just some ideas πŸ™‚ keep up the good work!

  5. in classic Spirit action. let's delay our flight. aaand! cause some delays with go arounds for everyone else! I swear this company is a fucking joke

  6. I remembered crawling my way to 23 in London Southend in a 152 while an Easy A319 was holding short for minutes already… feeling bad for those guys…
