Cities Safer by Design | EMBARQ

Today, more than half of the world's population lives in cities. And another 1.5 billion people will be added to the population of cities by 2030. More than 1.2 million people die in traffic accidents every year. It's the same as eight Boeing 747 planes every day.

We present here how transportation solutions and public spaces can save lives.

This video is based on examples from Brazil, India, Mexico and Turkey. We observed how accidents, injuries and traffic fatalities can be reduced by implementing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems, with more active transportation and greater use of the bicycle, and through better urban design projects.

In our work, we focus on health and road safety in urban areas, and what is most important in cities – people's lives. Learn more at: www.embarq.org/health-and-road-safety and www.embarqbrasil.org/our-work-care-and-safety-and-safety
