A dedicated team of museum employees, Sellen workers and volunteers helped to safely move the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and B-17 Flying Fortress into the new Aviation Pavilion.
The move took place over several hours, requiring the brief closure of East Marginal Way South as both planes crossed the busy street. At one point, the 787’s wingtip came within just 18 inches of the existing museum building.
Hundreds of spectators were on-hand to watch the unique relocation event unfold. Many watched from the neighboring Raisbeck Aviation High School and the Sellen-built pedestrian bridge that crosses East Marginal Way South.
