BERLIN (Reuters) – France and Germany said on Wednesday they would sign a contract with Airbus and Dassault Aviation in early 2019 to launch the initial phase of the new-generation European combat aircraft project known as the Air Combat System. of the future (SCAF).
Following a meeting between the French and German defense ministers in Brussels on Monday, the two countries referred to "significant progress" in the SCAF program which is scheduled to start operations in 2040.
The two ministers agreed that Airbus and Dassault would co-lead a study on "a common concept and architectures (including connectivity)" for SCAF.
Additional studies and contracts for prototypes of the aircraft and an engine will be launched at the Paris Air Show in June, the two countries added.
